TOP SECRET -- Jeddah - May 14, 2005
Fresh off the wire: The European Union (EU) has activated a massive fundraising campaign to facilitate a mass exodus of Christians from Lebanon into five countries: France, Belgium, Italy, Canada and the USA. This initiative comes in response to a joint request by the Vatican and Bkerki. France, Italy and Canada have announced they will open the immigration doors to Lebanese Christians. The USA and Belgium refused to comment.
It is estimated that 1 Million Christians will leave Lebanon before 2010 to one of these five countries. The plan is to distribute 600 thousands in the EU and 400 thousands between Canada and the USA. A number of Arab oil countries will participate in a massive undertaking to finance this operation. Saudi Arabia is offering to purchase all land and property of the Christians in Lebanon including churches, schools and universities. Generous bids will be made through the organizations of Al-Hariri and Al-Walid bin Talal.
Stay tuned for updates. |

I say: Christians of Lebanon, find yourself another country to go to. Under the Saudi/Sunny leadership you do not seem happy, you won't be happy under a shiite one. Do you think you will enjoy living as a minority in a "secular" country with a muslim majority? I doubt. So find yourself another country because the US/Saudi will not allow you to divide this one and take your portion. |

I won't reply in kind to you eyad. I think what you said is low and un-Lebanese. I hope you are joking. We all know that Lebanon is not just those driven by buses to vote and there has never been a sensus since 1926. |

1948: Jewish population of Lebanon = 20,000 2003: Fewer than 100
When Christians ruled Lebanon, Jews enjoyed relative toleration. In the mid-50’s, approximately 7,000 Jews lived in Beirut. As Jews in an Arab country, however, their position was never secure, and the majority left in 1967.
Fighting in the 1975-76 Muslim-Christian civil war swirled around the Jewish Quarter in Beirut, damaging many Jewish homes, businesses and synagogues. Most of the remaining 1,800 Lebanese Jews emigrated in 1976, fearing the growing Syrian presence in Lebanon would curtail their freedom of emigration. Most Jews went to Europe (particularly France), the United States, and Canada.
In the mid-1980's, Hezbollah kidnapped several prominent Jews from Beirut — most were leaders of what remained of the country's tiny Jewish community. Four of the Jews were later found murdered. Nearly all of the remaining Jews are in Beirut, where there is a committee that represents the community. Because of the current political situation, Jews are unable to openly practice Judaism.
In 2004, only 1 out of 5,000 Lebanese Jewish citizens registered to vote participated in the municipal elections. Virtually none of those registered remains in the country. The lone Jewish voter said that most of the community consists of old women. |
