Assafir - 17/09/2005:

Did Jumblat request permission from Speaker Berru for his visit? Did Aridi request permission from Speaker Berri or PM Seniora for this visit? Why would king Abdallah of Saudi receive a Lebanese MP and cabinet member on a non-official visit? Is Aridi visiting as the minister of information or just as a Jumblati?

AFP - King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has granted separate audiences to Druze leader Walid Jumblat and National Liberal Party Leader Dory Chamoun in the Red Sea Port city of Jeddah as Saad Hariri jetted from the U.N. to Riyadh and Speaker Berri returned to Beirut from vacation in Spain.

Information Minister Ghazi Aridi attended King Abdullah's talks with Jumblat on Saturday and later said the Monarch had expressed his absolute eagerness to preserve Lebanon's security and stability.

Chamoun took with him his elder son Camille to the royal audience, but neither father nor son commented on the talks afterwards.

Saad Hariri is in the Saudi capital to be at the bedside of his Syrian-born wife Lara as she gives birth in a Riyadh hospital to their third child, Rafik Hariri Jr.

Saad had said in New York that he plans to return to Beirut soon after Rafik Junior was born, but he did not say how soon that will be.

Berri, who returned from a 3-week vacation in Spain via Geneva Saturday, plans to resume his official functions as of Monday, when parliament's summer ends.
