"Israel must be wiped from map"
TEHRAN, Iran -- Iran's new president has repeated a remark from a former ayatollah that Israel should be "wiped out from the map," insisting that a new series of attacks will destroy the Jewish state, and lashing out at Muslim countries and leaders that acknowledge Israel.
The remarks by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad -- reported by Islamic Republic News Agency -- coincide with a month-long protest against Israel called "World without Zionism" and with the approach of Jerusalem Day.
World without Zionism is a nationwide event the planners intend to hold annually, and Ahmadinejad made the remarks during a meeting with protesting students at the Interior Ministry.
Ahmadinejad quoted a remark from Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini, the founder of Iran's Islamic revolution, who said that Israel "must be wiped out from the map of the world."
The president then said: "And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism," according to a quote published by IRNA.
The Jewish state has diplomatic relations with major Muslim countries such as Egypt, Jordan and Turkey, and the Gaza disengagement has improved ties between Israel and some other Muslim nations and leaders.
But Ahmadinejad said the "new wave of confrontations generated in Palestine and the growing turmoil in the Islamic world would in no time wipe Israel away," according to paraphrased statements in the IRNA report.
He also described Israel's disengagement from Gaza as a "trick" meant to make "Islamic states acknowledge the Zionist regime of Israel," according to the report.
The United States and Israel are sowing "discord among warring forces in Palestine and other parts of the Islamic world," the report paraphrased Ahmadinejad as saying.
In the process, such attempts were forcing Muslim nations to normalize relations with Israel, he said.
Ahmadinejad is quoted as saying, "Anybody who recognizes Israel will burn in the fire of the Islamic nation's fury."
One top Iranian religious leader, Ayatollah Nori Hamadani, said in a written statement it is incumbent upon Muslims to wrest Palestine from the Israelis.
He urged Iranians to protest on Friday -- which is Jerusalem Day, commemorated by Iranians to honor Jerusalem, where Israel has established its capital, and renew their support for an establishment of a Palestinian state. |

His remarks reveal the real face of Iran and its policies of hate and racism.
I wonder whether Hassan Nasrullah in Lebanon joins the call of his master in Iran or will he distance himself and his Hizbullah from Iran once anf for all.
It is time for Lebanon to officially at the level of its cabinet to distance itself from the anti-semetic and racial calls of the Iranian leaders and for the Shiite community in Lebanon to join the Lebanese chorus.
After all, I believe that we as Lebanese share a different set of values of tolerance and civilization among ourselves than what we share with foreigners of the same faith.
It is time for the Lebanese Shiite to be the leaders in their faith once again, like Imam Moussa Sadr was and bring about a change in the World's perception of Shia Islam and a change in the Lebanese Shiite outlook to the world. |

| Although his remarks strike a cord with many Muslims around the world, I think it was a strategic mistake to make them. Now the whole world is against Iran and Iran will come under severe monitoring. I hope he can escape this evil campaign against him with victory. |

What Muslim world are you talking about? His remarks may strike a cord with you and a few like you, but please keep the Muslim world out of it. I agree with Whip, Lebanon should distance itself from these remarks and Hezbollah should make a choice: If what Ahmadinejad said represents what Hezbollah wants, then the Hizb can no longer hide behind the resistance movement in Lebanon to keep its arms. If not, the Hizb must come out and clearly announce its position on this issue. |

Israel reacted to the remarks strongly by calling for U.N. action against Tehran.
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said "that a country which called for the destruction of another cannot be a member of the U.N.," according to a statement released by his office.
The statement quoted Sharon as saying, "Such a country, in possession of nuclear weapons, is a danger not only to Israel and the Middle East but to Europe as well."
Earlier, Israeli Vice Premier Shimon Peres, a Nobel peace laureate, said, "Since 1945, the establishment of the United Nations, no head of state which is a member of the United Nations ever called for the destruction of another member of the United Nations, publicly and clearly, as the president of Iran did.
"It is against the charter of the United Nations, it is against the practice of the United Nations, and you cannot have a charter where some of the people are for peace and self-defense and the other half for the destruction of it.
"We saw already crazy declarations, and crazy appearances in the past, sometimes we did not take it very seriously. But when you see such a crazy declaration being done by an elected head of state, a member of the United Nations, it is unbearable, you cannot remain a member, or you have to change the charter," Peres said.
I think Israel will be totally justified now to launch an air raid against all nuclear plants in Iran. It will be an act of pre-emptive self-defense against an immediate and real threat.

Three reasons why he may have made these remarks:
1 - He is an idiot, inexperienced in Leadership and was carried away by the cheering crowd. He forgot that he was a president and no longer a candidate campaigning among radical supporters.
2 - He is the devil incarnate and he really hates Israel and the Jews and he honestly expressed his feelings and his plans.
3 - He is an agent of the enemies of Iran and want to help them keep it from building its nuclear reactor; he just gave them the reason to do that and gave Israel the reason to attack Iran.
By all accounts, Israel is legally justified now under international law to attack Iran in a preemptive defensive strike as Mr. Israel said.
If Hezbollah does not clarify his position on this matter, Israel will also be justified to strike Hezbollah in Lebanon and we won't be able to legitimately defend against that.
What do you think went in his mind when he said that? |

Truth Squad - I think he is number 2 and he must be dealt with promptly and swiftly.
It would be best if Iran itself terminates him. It will save the region further escalation of the conflict. |
