Most of the Sunni leadership in Lebanon seems to be suffering from a Victim-Abuser Dependence Syndrome. They keep crawling back to Damascus despite the fact that the Assad regime killed their Mufti and many of their leaders including Hariri. Last week, Sunni leader Salim Hoss crawled to see Assad Jr. Next week, Sunni leader Nagib Mikati, crawls on Wednesday to obtain the blessing of Assad. What is it with these Sunni leaders. My problem is that they are doing it in the name of Lebanon and my name as a Lebanese, not just as the weak, broken, submissive characters that they are. Haven't you seen what happened to those who crawl to Syria? You gutless spineless cowards?
Hariri craled before you, what good did it do him?

You make a good point Gisele. I am not surprised at Hoss. He has always been "Ijer Kerseh la Souriya" but I had some hope for Mikati. Now that I learned he has joined the "Crawling to Syria Club", I am amazed. hasn't he seen what Syria has done to Lebanon? After 30 years of occupation and on the eve of its departure, Syria sent the biggest shockwave (a Tsunami) killing Rafik Hariri?
What about the feelings of the millions who demonstrated in Beirut?
Mikati's visit to Syria at this time is certainly out of time.

Gisèle, I think it does not do any good if you generalise the critisism of some people who happened to be Sunni to attacking the Sunni leadership as a whole. I agree that Mr. Hoss visit to damascus is worthless / needless and see no point in making it(anyway this is his personal freedom). However we have to admit that Syria is our neighbour whether we like it or not, and we have to deal with this neighbour because we can't change geography.
May be you should criticise lebanese officials if they are receiving and obeying orders from our "beloved sister", and these facts will only be revealed in the comming days or weeks

this is why we need a new leadership from without not from within.

Zys makes a good point.
You cannot generalize. I agree with you that we need to formalize the relations between Lebanon and Syria, exchange ambassadors and stop this nonsense. Truthfully, I am pessimistic. I tend to agree with jack that we need perhaps outside leadership. our leadership in lebanon lacks the maturity and knowledge govern for the future.

Gisele, I agree with you. Mikati's visit to syria showed how much we lack statesmen in lebanon. They made him concede lebanese land to syria, they made him recognize that lebanese prisoners in syrian jails are terrorists. What a f..n a..hole!

Being oppressed for 15 years, it is normal that we show some hesitation in the first few months of liberation. However after the election, I hope that new people come to power, people who are used not to obtain orders from foreigners.

I think the real test is after the elections. now many leaders may be hesitant to "crawl" not knowing what the law will be and who will be voting for them. As soon as the elections are over, you will see the old crawlers back to their habit.

OK. I DO NOT SEE HOW THIS COULD BE CONSTRUCTIVE. THEY WANT US TO KEEP TALKING ABOUT NONSENSE SO WE DON'T DISCUSS WITH THEM THE REAL ISSUES. WHO ARE THEY AND THEM? THE POLITICAL ESTABLISHMENT OF COURSE.
I SUGGEST WE FOCUS ON MORE CONSTRUCTIVE DEBATES IN THE POLITICAL FORUM AND ASK THE MODERATOR TO OPEN A FUN FORUM. THERE WE COULD MAKE FUN ALL WE WANT OF WHOEVER WE WISH.

My real fear is that Syria may be crawling back to Lebanon. This newly charged sectarian chatter, mostly by Syrian agents that has now infected Bkerki is very dangerous. It can lead to disasters:
1) keeping in power the corrupt class of christian leadership like Lahoud, Slayman frangieh, Michel Murr and Family etc... and keeping out reform movements like Kornet Shahwan, Aoun and Geagea.
2) raising the level of animosity and breaking the national unity that was celebrated on March 14.
3) God forbids, going back to war.
So my wish is that Bkerki will soften its position and let these elections proceed peacefully and STOP listening to the Syrian agents.
