TOP SECRET -- Damascus: May 9, 2005

Syrian president, Bachar Assad, continues to welcome in his presidential abode in Damascus expired Lebanese politicians, mainly of the Muslim Sunni sect, namely Salim Hoss and Omar Karami. These meetings come as Mikati invites a Syrian and Iranian role in Lebanese internal affairs, in an attempt by Syria to stage a politically-backed military coup d'état in Lebanon using the Palestinian factions and undercover Syrian intelligence officers. Current estimates and intelligence reports put the number of armed undercover Syrian Intelligence officers in Lebanon at 57000 individuals, disguised as Syrian workers and distributed all over Lebanon. Their arms can be readily activated and have been entrusted to the Palestinian camps in Tripoli, Sidon and Beirut.

Bachar Assad met also with Jamil Sayyed, ousted Security General director in Lebanon. Discussions with Sayyed reportedly involved three major issues: 1) a plan to assassinate General Aoun, 2) a security military report to help Syria stage the coup d'état, and 3) give Sayyed political asylum in Syria, should the Syrian plan fail or the international investigation team disclose Sayyed's involvement in Hariri's assassination.

In the interest of the truth it is important to separate Fact from Fiction:

Facts as heard on the news:
1- Hoss visited Assad
2- Mikati visited Assad
3- Karami visited or to visit Assad
4- Mikati stated the necessity of a role for Syria and Iran in the Hezbollah matter.
5- Jamil Sayyed visited Assad.
6- Arms in the Palestinian camps

Unsubstantiated claims:
1- Syrian plans to overthrow the Lebanese regime
2- Number of Syrian intelligence officers disguised as workers in Lebanon
3- Syrian plans to assassinate General Michel Aoun
4- Content of Sayyed's discussions with Assad

Whereas, based on the facts, the scenario proposed by CIA Report makes an interesting and creative hypothesis for the otherwise unexplainable purpose of these meetings between the head of a neighboring state and former officers of the Lebanese nation, who until few weeks ago operated under Syrian tutelage, CIA Report provides no specific reference or evidence to support his/her theory.

But then so does any other intelligence report. These reports are largely based on the analysis of the intelligence agents of a certain number of facts.

Zys, if you want the sources, read Le Figaro (France) or alsyassah (Kuweit), both have reported interesting stories backing up the CIA Report:

From Alsyassa: I will post the link, please Admin keep it for others to go and read. It is not an ad. It is the sources that Zys asked for: http://www.alseyassah.com/alseyassah/may10_05.asp. It was on the first page on May 10 and continued on page 35. You ave to go into the archive to read it.

To set the facts straight:
Hoss went to Syria to ask Assad if he should run for office in Beirut. Assad told him NO. Hoss will not run.
Mikati went to Assad to ask him what electoral law should his cabinet sponsor, Assad told him to leave it to Berri; he did.
Karami went to Assad to ask him if he should run and who he should have on his list, Assad gave him a list.
Sayyed went to Assad to see what he wanted from him and Assad gave him a list: a) more bombs in christian areas, b) more arms to Syrian workers, c) kill aoun, d) weaken the Maronite Party and defeat their leader, Sfier.

Let's not forget the fact that the 1975 war was between the sunnis, druze and palestinians on one side and the maronites on the other.
now the sunnis and the druze are on one side and the maronites are on the other. there remains to bring the palestinians closer to the sunnis. this is where Assad, Hoss, Karami, Mikati and Sultan Abul3aynayn come in.

TOP SECRET -- Beirut: May 13, 2005

Syrian intelligence services in Lebanon reactivate their political machinery and manage to influence key strongholds in the opposition movement including Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir.

Intelligence reports coming from the Middle East revealed that a Syrian plan of triangulation is underway to undermine the opposition movement in Lebanon, postpone the parliamentary elections and destabilize the country.

Their plan is trying to revive through pro-Syrian Christian leaders, sectarian rifts in Lebanon. In this context, pro-Syrian Slayman Frangieh, whose only credentials are his name and his Syrian ties, is making a come-back to run the show on the Lebanese Christian scene and pushing Bkerki into taking extremist positions vis-à-vis the 2005 parliamentary elections. Frangieh is coordinating his efforts with Emile Lahoud, Omar Karami (who just entered from a visit to Assad), Michel El-Murr and Issam Fares. He is using his ownership of the TV news outlet “LBC International”, to make a special appearance tonight in a bid to play on Christian fears and to incite sectarian rift by attacking opposition leader Walid Jumblat. It is feared that the pro-Syrian camp is attempting to sabotage the victory of the opposition camp through its intelligence agents using Bkerki, news outlets and the unsubstantiated fears of some Christians.

If left unchecked, this could lead to a resurgence of a major Syrian role in Lebanese politics via a pro-Syrian Christian group and a power struggle within the Christian camp and between Christians and non-Christians in Lebanon. The situation is reminiscent of 1975, when the Christians in Lebanon lead then by former president Slayman Frangieh (also a pro-Syrian) demanded Syrian protection and military intervention in Lebanon.
