I would like to hear your opinions on ways to fight corruption in the administration. There are plenty of talks on the need to stop the corruption, but noone has really tackled the issue in a serious & scientific way. It is important that anyone who has good and probably detailed ideas to win the war against corruption to share it with others.

Here are the steps you need Zys: 1- call for a meeting of the parliament, make sure all 128 deputies are there with the cabinet. Call the army to arrest them all and take them to Yarzeh, put them with Geagea. 2- stage a meeting between Aoun and Nasrallah, arrest them both and take them to Yarzeh. 3- invite Lahoud to a swimming contest, send the Lebanese army divers, pull him underneath the water and take him to Yarzeh. 4- call for a national prayer in which all religious leaders will participate, arrest them all and take them to Yarzeh. 5- invite all the Lebanese press corps. to visit the new prisoners in Yarzeh and make sure they join them. 6- convene a tribunal to try the prisoners in Yarzeh and arrest the judges and send them to Yarzeh. 7- call for a private international firm to help you audit the performance of the Lebanese government since 1990 and keep the data. 8- call for an international tribunal to try all the prisoners that you have collected for war crimes, crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, theft of national wealth and betrayal of public trust. 9- call the UN to issue a mandate for Switzerland or Sweden to govern Lebanon and train his people for self-government. 10- prepare to stage an apprise against the mandate powers to reclaim your independence.
Let me know if you need help. |

Why not change the all lebanese people and import some sweden instead :) Now let's get serious. In my opinion the first step to do is to reform the justice. You can't prosecute a corrupted offcial with a corrupted judge. For this reason, there should be a set of new laws to enforce the role of the judges and keep them safe from political retaliation. For example, there should not be a way for a politician to be able to relocate a judge from south to north as a retaliation. It is a must to return the equilibrium to the justice balance!

Pax,
Mfakkrin inno ma elon illa hal za3im, in 3ala danabo bi 3alliyon wa watta bi youto.
To reply "seriously" to zys, I think the first step should be announ yemna3 intikhab koul wa7ad 3ndo 7ada bi 3aylto ta3ata assiyese min arib aw min ba3id min 45 sene la lyom

The target of this topic is to seriously tackle corruption fighting and not to joke! It is always an option to make as Hitler and Stalin by slaughtering a portion of the lebanese people. However I would apreciate a better way to do this. Regarding the election law, no doubt that "mohafaza with proportions" is the best suited for lebanon. Such law has been tested and adpoted by many democracies all over the world. So there is nothing wrong in using it in lebanon. Such law will bring true representatives to the parliament, who can make suitable laws to fight corruption

Despite the cynisism in these comments, they all make a good point. Law and order in Lebanon was never a product of the popular will, but an imposition on the people by a number of mostly corrupt powerholders (many of the presidents, PMs, Speakers, deputies, ministers and so on) including some in the judiciary and some religious leaders. Unless and until this whole class is reformed (changed), it is unlikely that we will see a transparent and accountable government in Lebanon. Therefore, I think the best fight against corruption is one that targets this corrupted class of powerholders. The specific steps needed to achieve a successful outcome will require extensive studies and debates. I will be happy to engage in those debates if I find sound and interested debaters. |

It is important to keep in mind that corruption did not come about overnight in Lebanon. It has been accumulating over the years to a point where it has become part of the character of many Lebanese and many of them proudly like to display this character. So I think that fighting it will take a long time, more than one generation. We begin the fight in the elementary schools by teaching the children to be honest and truthful, by distinguishing right from wrong in the absolute sense, and by respecting the rules and regulations. |
