Syria is out but the "old guard" who served under Syrian tutelage continues to dominate Lebanese policies and procedures and supress the Lebanese people and our freedom of expression. By "old guard" I do not mean Lahoud or intelligence agencies, but the House of Hariri and the House of Jumblat operating through their point man in government Seniora.

The Lebanese security forces under command of PM Seniora (Hariri's point man in Lebanon) have arrested three members of the Guardians of the Cedars (GOC) for publishing a declaration that responds to one of Lebanon's current political leaders (presumably Jumblat) and thrown them in jail, leveling against them false accusations of trying to amend the constitution and enticing violence. None of that is true of course; for those of you who read Arabic, go to: http://www.gotc.org/pdf/bayeen_9_09_05.pdf and read the whole declaration.

Hariri Sr. (now dead) and Jumblat were the ones who exiled Aoun, jailed Geagea and did the same to many of the freedom loving Lebanese citizens and the freedom fighters who faught against Arafat and Syria for more than 15 years, only to replace them with newly nationalized Syrians and Palestinians.

Today Hariri's son and Jumblat continue the legacy of what they called the Syrian terrorism in Lebanon. Instead of arresting those behind the serial attacks on civilians in the Christian sector, they are busy suppressing the freedom of expression of Lebanon-loving Christians. Instead throwing in jail those criminals who kill and maim our people, they throw in jail a journalist and a free-thinker.

I say it is time to liberate Lebanon of Hariri and Jumblat and their whole operation in Lebanon. It is time to live free again.

It seems that the "old guard" as you put it is still in charge. It is surprising that they would jump to arrest the GOC members for an innocent declaration but no one stops to at least criticize the friends of Chartouni who met and celebrated the assassination of former President Bachir Gemayel and 20 of his friends.
I do not know what it is, but I am beginning to feel that if you are a Christian in Lebanon and you do not do as the Muslims tell you to do, you can be arrested. But if you are a Muslim we3melet essab3a we demmeta - min Joumblat working with Israelis during the occupation to Hariri, Joumblat and Berri serving the Syrian occupation - you can be forgiven and you are always a nationalist no matter what you do.
It seems that the rules of the new guard is "do as we tell you and you will be fine". How is that different from the Syrian occupation? it is beyond me.
Hariri is killed and the whole country is put on hold until they find the Truth. Tens of explosions and hundreds of victims - between killed and injured - have plagued the Christian sector of Beirut and no one seems to care.
Where are we going with this country?

Abu Arz: despite what you perceive from Hariri and Jumblat as hostile behavior, you cannot call for their elimination from Lebanese politics. They represent a sizeable base and command a large following.
It would be best to reach out to them and try to change their opinions or their politics.
In a diverse pluralistic society you have to accept diversity of opinion; if you can't then you belong in an isolated ghetto of like-minded individuals.
I to sympathize with the arrested GOC members. There are more criminal violators on the streets and in politics who are freely roaming the streets today but I recommend patience and careful, slow but sure steps and you will reach your goal.
Gisele: with all due respect, I do not think your tone is appropriate at this time in Lebanon. Yes there are some frustrations and many are not always careful in what they say; but fighting words lead only to hostility and that could lead to war. We cannot afford another war in Lebanon.
For the sake of peace guys nad if you truly love this country, tone down the unnecessary rhetoric.

Just for you to know, here is the latest on the Chartouni friends, they were arrested yet, but Sa3id Mirza "Sattar Istanabat bhaza elkhoussouss":

Can anyone of you tell me then why are the GOC members still under arrest whilst the criminal of Tripoli - Chartouni/Alam friends - are still free.
I think because the GOC members are Christians but the criminals of tripoli are Moslems. Let's not kid ourselves: Balad ta'ifi and there nothing but ta'ifiyyeh in it that works.

Well, terrorist movements are popping everywhere in Lebanon now: from the friends of Chartouni in Tripoli, to the "Jama3a Islamiyya" in Zaydaniyyeh, not to mention the already existing ones.
I think the future of Lebanon as we know it is in danger, particularly in danger are the Christians who prefer to be plain Lebanese (not Syrian and not particularly Arabs) and those moderate Moslems who tolerate diversity.
So as a plain Lebanese (Syria-free, Arab-free, Israel-free and fat-free), I call upon all Lebanese to shun the voices of extremism and intolerance and reason with an open mind, reaching out to their fellow Lebanese with peace and love.
