The CDL offers its sincere condolences to the Lebanese People, to the Lebanese Press and to the Tueini family for the tragic loss of Deputy Gebran Tueini.

Deputy Tueini was assassinated Monday December 12, 2005 in a terrorist car explosion in Mkalles, East of Beirut. The regime of Bashar Assad in Syria is believed to have masterminded the terrorist attack.

We invite you to sign our condolence book and share with us your thoughts on the legacy of Gebran Tueini. Your message will be shared with Annahar, Mrs. Tueini and the Tueini family, and while they will not be able to respond personally to each one, please know how much they appreciate your kindness.

I can barely find the words to express to the Tueini family and to Annahar community my sympathy and my outrage at the cowardly assassination of Gebran. It is as if Gebran has taken with him all the nice words of courage, of anger and of outrage.

All I can say is a prayer that Gebran’s martyrdom inspires his family and his admirers to carry his sword and work without fear for his dream of a free, independent and sovereign Lebanon.

The nobleness of his spirit, the clarity of his words, the righteousness of his beliefs and the courage of his opinions will inspire us all for generations to come.

May his soul be at peace in the knowledge that what he fought for will be realized: a free, independent and sovereign Lebanon.

My deepest and sincere sympathy goes to Mr. Ghassan Tueini, to Mrs. Siham Tueini and the children.

May Gebran’s life be a source of comfort for them and may his words live forever in the hearts and minds of all Lebanese.

Long live Annahar and long live the freedom of expression.

Sincerely,
Elie Al-Chaer.

A hero fell on his sword.
We are all sad for his loss. But we are comforted in the knowledge that Gebran's legacy will continue to inspire us to say the truth and be bold about it without fear, to fight for justice and be assertive about it without hesitation and to stand for what is right and be firm in our stance without wavering.
My deepest sympathy to his family and to Annahar.
We are reassured to know that "Gebran Tueini lives and Annahar will continue".

Sincerely,
Patrique Dahdah.

It is a great loss to Lebanon, to freedom of speech and to the independence movement.
Gebran Tueni taught us to speak our mind without fear and how to stand for our beliefs until martyrdom.
We promise to continue the march to freedom, sovereignty and independence that martyr Tueni led.
My condolences to his family and to the giant Ghassan Tueni: You lost one Gebran, we are all your children.

From the heart,
Eyad Sabounji.

His blood will not go in vain.
It will be the fuel that revitalizes the independence uprising and bring us all together again to fight tyranny, oppression and terrorism with democracy, liberty and free speech.
My promise to all those who loved him, we will keep his memory alive, his words will inspire us and his courage will guide us all the way to victory or martyrdom.

Gebran,

For our Cedar to stay green, the ink of free pens and the blood of free men.
You had the glory of joining them in martyrhood, as did Samir Kassir before you. Thank you, may we be worthy of all the martyrs' sacrifices.
Long Live Lebanon.

Goodbye my friend,

Goodbye my hero.

They killed you because they feared your truth will expose their lies.
They killed you because they feared that your word will strike a cord with the people they oppress.
They killed you because they feared that your Nahar will shine the light on the darkness of their schemes.

Fear not my friend: justice may be slow but it is surely coming; and you truth and your word and your light have paved its path.

Rest in peace my friend and keep us under your watch.

Ali Ezzeddine.

"The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness could not extinguish it (John 1:5).

So is Gebran Tueini's light and so is Annahar. It will always shine in the darkness of the Middle East and expose the wrong and extinguish darkness.

God rests his soul and the souls of his friends Nicolas Flouti and André Mrad.

Jean Chémali.

Gebran Tueini did not die… He is reincarnated in many loyal patriotic Lebanese all over world who will follow his steps and speak out the truth. The spirit of Gebran is resuscitated in all of us who were so far quiet but from now on, they will pick up their pen and write their thoughts and defend their homeland against the forces of darkness that reside in corrupted and ignorant regimes. This tragedy is a wake-up call for each one of us to stand together and fight with our pen for what is fair and just. The assassins should know that they still live in darkness and only heroes like Gebran could bring them to daylight and show them the roadmap to the truth.
